Salisbury, Md. – Stockton University (20-2) continued its mastery of five-set matches with a pair 3-2 victories as the Ospreys edged Christopher Newport (17-7) and Salisbury (13-7) to extend their winning streak to 13. Stockton is 6-1 in matches that have gone to five sets this season.
Charlotte Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) led the Ospreys past Christopher Newport with 13 kills followed by
Julie Kohlhoff (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) with 11 kills.
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) totaled 34 assists, 11 digs, four kills and four aces in the victory.
Sophia Marziello (Haddonfield/Paul VI) scooped a career-high 36 digs followed by
Christie Louer (Clifton/Clifton) with 14 digs and seven kills.
Stockton led 2-1 after three sets but the Captains took the fourth 25-21 to extend the match. The Ospreys then prevailed 17-15 in a tight fifth set to capture the victory. The Ospreys and Christopher Newport are both in the Others Receiving Votes category of the latest AVCA Division III poll.
Kohlhoff sparked Stockton with nine kills and five blocks in the triumph over Salisbury.
Jocelyn Holobetz (Pottstown, Pa./Nativity BVM) tied for team-high honors with nine kills followed by Leon with eight. Sullivan tallied 39 assists and 12 digs while Marziello paced the Ospreys with 22 digs.
Once again, Stockton led 2-1 after three sets but saw its opponent win the fourth frame, 25-20 this time, to force a fifth set. Leading 11-10, the Ospreys pulled away with three straight points for a 14-10 advantage and later clinched the win 15-12 with a kill by Leon on match point.
Stockton will try to remain unbeaten in conference play when the Ospreys visit Montclair State for an NJAC match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
