BNIM Builds Set for Kansas City West 18th Street Fashion Show

For the 21st year of the West 18th Street Fashion Show, BNIM was chosen among six other local architecture firms to create a backdrop that reflects the theme for this year’s show.

BNIM in collaboration with AL Huber, helped to design and fabricate a backdrop for local fashion designer, Craig Rohner, for this year’s West 18th Street Fashion Show. This year’s theme, “Summer Tableau” is based around the 1960s counterculture movement, recognized by group centric behavior, drug use and inexpensive psychedelic iconography. BNIM’s design for the backdrop was inspired by the psychedelic patchwork-clad geodesic domes of the Drop City commune in Colorado. The patchwork was created by using recycled billboard vinyl to be able to resist weather and wind while also reusing material to create a more sustainable backdrop.
