The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan


Way back in the summer of 2002, the House Theatre premiered its 2nd-ever production, The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan. The response was overwhelming. The Sun-Times named them “The Next Big Thing” and the Chicago Tribune compared playwright Phillip Klapperich to Mark Twain. They will be streaming the entire production from 2002 on their YouTube Channel on Saturday, April 4 at 7:30pm CST. The show will play alongside live commentary by a handful of the artists involved.

Virtual Center Sundays


Every First Sunday of the Month, Hyde Park Art Center is activated with activities throughout the center for the public, neighbors, and families. Although their facility is closed due to COVID-19, you can still join them for family-friendly filled day of art making activities, workshops, and artist talks virtually from the comfort of your own home!

The Greatest Talent Show on Planet Earth


On April 11th, Spektral Quartet (Ensemble-in-Residence in the Department of Music) will reclaim the stage with some of the brightest, funniest, and most moving performances you’ve seen…all from the comfort of your own pillow fort. Led by UChicago art therapy extern Danyah Subei, create an intuitive mixed media collage using accessible materials found at home. You don't need to be an "artist" to benefit from the healing properties of art-making. While producing a tangible art piece is often the final result, the process of making is also essential to the therapeutic process. Join our online open studio and give it a try!

Free Weekly Yoga Classes


The perfect introduction to basic yoga poses and healthy alignment. Arts + Public Life invites you to practice standing asana (poses) as well as seated poses. Classes will also incorporate yogic breathing, meditation, and relaxation techniques—great for stress relief and overall relaxation. Recorded, live-streamed.

Virtual Dance Lab

Lucky Plush Productions, a company-in-residence in Theater and Performance Studies (TAPS), is partnering with the TAPS Dance Program to provide online dance and movement classes to the University community and beyond. Free for UChicago community.

Looking for laughs? Tired of TikTok? Already finished everything on Netflix? The Second City's totally digital, totally FUN improv drop-in classes are for anyone looking for 90 minutes of fun and creativity--with other people. All you need is an internet connection and a camera, and they’ll have you “yes, and”-ing in no time. Sign up by yourself or encourage your friends to join your session for a virtual get-together!

At Home with Auditorium Theater

Every Sunday at 6:00pm CST the Auditorium Theatre will be streaming performances on their Facebook page featuring singers, musicians, and dancers from their community. The broadcasts will be available on their Instagram, Twitter, and Youtube accounts.

On Sunday, April 5, they’ll be featuring two soloists from Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah.

The Quarantine Concerts

The Quarantine Concerts are a live stream concert series and collaborative endeavor among a growing number of Chicago-based organizations and organizers meant to provide artists experimenting across genres a space to share their work. This project is initiated by curators and musicians Daniel Wyche (Elastro Electro-Acoustic Series at Elastic Arts), Ben Billington (Resonance Series at the Hideout), Carrie Cooper (Dark Matter Coffee, Ithaca Underground), Elastic Arts, and Experimental Sound Studio.

Celebrate Poetry Month

In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Poetry Foundation is happy to offer a free download of the April 2020 issue of Poetry Magazine! The special issue features a suite of poems by Nobel Prize recipient Nelly Sachs, translated by Joshua Wiener with Linda B. Parshall; a poetry comic by Bianca Stone that illustrates Gertrude Stein’s “A Little Called Pauline”; a portfolio of poems by Madeline Gins, the poet, novelist, artist, philosopher, and speculative architect, introduced by Lucy Ives; and an essay by Joy Ladin.

My America: Immigrant and Refugee Writers Today

Presented by the American Writers MuseumMy America: Immigrant and Refugee Writers Today is a special exhibit that brings audiences face-to-face with contemporary authors who are immigrants, refugees, and second generation immigrants from all parts of the world. Virtual Talks and Tours

Instead of the real life walking tours Chicago Detours usually offers, right now you can join them for a 20-minute talk each weekday as a “Historic Happy Hour for Curious People,” and 40-minute live, virtual tours on weekends. These online talks and tours are free, with a $5-15 suggested donation. Past talks are viewable on Youtube for a limited time. Registration required.

Music Talk: Meshell Ndegeocello with Staceyann Chin

Back in March, a number of students attended University Night at the Museum of Contemporary Art through the ArtsPass program. If you missed it, you might have also missed this amazing performative talk between legendary musician Meshell Ndegeocello and longtime collaborator Staceyann Chin. Lucky for you, you can stream it now on Facebook.
