Buchanan Mall Outreach Assistant

 

Are you an outgoing person with a love for San Francisco’s Fillmore community?

Citizen Film is looking for a full-time Outreach Assistant to support public engagement in one of their most exciting community building projects – Buchanan Stories / Buchanan Change.

The Outreach Assistant will support Citizen Film’s community outreach efforts to engage Western Addition residents, schools, and community based agencies as an integral part of the BS / BC project. Under the direction of CF’s Outreach Director, Tamara Walker, and Co-Directors, the Outreach Assistant will support trainings, presentations, art making projects, and wellness events for Fillmore neighborhood students and their families.

COMPENSATION:  $18-22/hr.  Full time, hourly position. Compensation depends on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time position through June 30, 2022, with the possibility of reappointment.

Full Position Description

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Recruit neighborhood residents to participate in the BS/BC project by:
    • coordinating, and attending public events on the Buchanan Mall such as community health days, gardening day parties, community career fairs, etc.; 
    • creating, ordering and distributing surveys, brochures and handouts about BS/BC project;
    • collaborating with community residents and student organizations to make neighbors aware of the resources and opportunities available in the Fillmore neighborhood; 
    • supporting teaching artists in presentations and events with youth and their families;
  • Data collection, such as: documenting numbers of residents served and tracking the progress of Fillmore neighborhood community engagement, etc;
  • Prepare quarterly reports with data summaries and some financial accounting; 
  • Coordinate with CF’s Marketing Department to distribute information to neighborhood residents and/or update Citizen Film’s websites, social media channels and online publications about the BS/BC project;
  • Present to community partners about the BS/BC project and services offered in the neighborhood;
  • Other related duties as assigned 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and intercultural competence, with familiarity of social justice & human rights issues 
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, especially in crisis situations.  This includes maintaining professional boundaries and client confidentiality with neighborhood residents and working within legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Basic knowledge of community organizing practices, obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or work experience
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Strong computer/technology skills (Microsoft Suite & Google Suite etc.)
  • Detail oriented, with strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team

PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft and Google Suite applications, including data management in Google Sheets & Google Forms,.
  • Knowledge of requirements of public administration programs like:
    • Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS)
    • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)
    • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
