Hammer Debut Highlights Home Track Meet

The debut of the new hammer cage was the start of a big home meet for the Muhlenberg track and field teams.

The hammer cage was installed last fall, and for the first time in school history, the hammer was contested on campus to open the Muhlenberg Invitational on Friday afternoon. And the competitors inaugurated the cage in fine fashion, with seniors Dylan DeMagistris and Faith Fezenko both breaking their own school records in the hammer.

DeMagistris threw 176-4, improving on his second-place standing on the Centennial Conference all-time list, while Fezenko's mark of 153-10 moved her up to third place on the all-time CC list.

The hammer accounted for two of the eight events won by the Mules, and graduate student John Reichenbach accounted for two others, winning the long jump and high jump. A week after posting the third-best long jump in CC history, Reichenbach tied for the 10th-best high jump in CC history, clearing 6-8.

Other winners included freshmen David Seel in the 1500 and Jaden Snow (pictured above right) in the high hurdles, sophomore Mike Powel in the shot put and senior Noel House in the javelin.

DeMagistris (in the hammer and discus), Fezenko, Reichenbach, House and the 4x100 team of freshmen Isaac Schaffer-Neitz, Bryce Rhodeman and Christopher Short and junior Joshua Castro all turned in regional-qualifying performances.
