About us

The Scott Simpson Cross-Border Institute brings together members of the global legal community and academia to discuss and address significant global legal and regulatory issues. The Institute, conceptualized by the late Scott Simpson, former co-head of Skadden's global transactions practices, unites leading law firms, practitioners, academics and students around the world to asses cross-border transactional trends, analyze issues, and drive innovation and best practices. Scott Simpson was a beloved Fordham Law alumnus and adjunct professor. Scott graduated from Fordham Law School in 1982 and went on to lead an illustrious career as one of the world's top M&A lawyers. Scott practiced out of the London office of renowned law firm Skadden Arps, where he was consistently recognized as one of Europe's most influential lawyers.

    As the year's elections come to a close, we are reflecting on this year's Scott Simpson Cross-Border Institute Transatlantic Conference, which was held at Fordham Law on June 4, 2024. Robert Posner delivered an inspiring keynote address on global elections and their impact on the deal market. Experts Jerry H. Goldfeder, Rumela Sen, PhD, and Siôn Simon discussed the 2024 elections in the U.S., India, and the U.K. in a panel led by Professor Richard Squire. In a year where more than 40% of the world's population went to the polls in general elections across the globe, the stakes for the democratic process have never been higher.
