Five Gold, Seven Silver, and Five Bronze Medals to Close Out the A10 Championship

Fairfax, Va.- George Mason closes the A10 Championships fighting until the very end to claim a spot at the top. The women's team finished in fourth place with 85.7 points and the men's team finished in second with 179 points only behind Rhode Island who have won the title for four years straight. VCU took back to Richmond the Women's A10 Outdoor Championship title. 
 
Day 2 of the Outdoor Championships began with a bang for the Patriots when Noelle Foss, Susan Adenitan, Mia Suero, and Sierra Matheson brought back the silver medal in the first running event of the day, the 4x400m relays. The men's team followed route winning the silver as well in the 4x400m relays with Jarett Flaker, Isaiah Carter, Ashton King, and Jalen Johnson working the track. Jarett Flaker had a short time to take a break for he was summoned to the track once again for the 400m race and he added a bronze medal to his name with a new personal best of 47.46.
 
The first gold medal of the day was achieved by Bobby Kestyn in the discus throw with a mark of 52.34m. Bobby has been incredible this season breaking records and he reached a much-deserved gold medal. The rookie sensation, Joziah Johnson, got his first ever collegiate gold medal after finishing in first in the 400m hurdles with a new personal best of 52.20. Geni Roberts has been working hard all season always finishing in the top three and today, he achieved the precious gold medal in the triple jump with a mark of 15.21m. 
 
Jalen Johnson added a silver medal to his name after placing second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.63m. Kelsey Sebwe gets the bronze medal after a hard-fought battle in the triple jump where she achieved a mark of 12.11m. Albert Asare followed up Joziah Johnson finishing in third for the bronze in the 400m hurdles. To finish off the A10 Championships, the men's 4x400m relay was the final event and George Mason was able to achieve the silver medal with Aidan Walcott, Calvin Meyer, Jarett Flaker, and Ryan Brooks
 
Joziah Johnson was named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer with the gold medal that he earned at the men's 400m hurdles. Bobby Kestyn adds to his legacy the Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer after he captured a bronze medal in the hammer throw and the gold in the discus. 
 
The Patriots may have not finished in first but the fight and the determination was always there from the beginning. The season is not over yet for George Mason, next weekend the Patriots will be hosting the IC4A/ECAC Championships and after that will be the NCAA Preliminary Rounds.
