(December 8, 2023) ATTENTION, ATTENTION! The legendary Hi, How Are You Day 2024 concert presented by American Campus Communities has been announced. This year we'll be at the historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Austin, TX on Sunday, January 21st, 2024 with Fleet Foxes (Robin Solo) and Valerie June.

Season 2 of The Hi, How Are You? Podcast is here! In conjunction with The Drag Audio Production House of the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin, we are proud to present Season 2 of the Hi, How Are You? Podcast. Recorded on site and live at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, student hosts Lauren Koops and Guido Peluffo have open and honest conversations around mental health with many of the festival artists; together they share stories about their creative processes, explore the healing power of art and music, and more. Professional clinical advisors provided by the American Psychological Association and Texas Psychological Association, along with Hi, How Are You Project Board of Directors member Dr. Sonia Krishna, partnered with us post festival to contribute additional commentary and valuable insight.

The 3rd Annual Happy Habit-A-Thon is back and better than ever! It will now take place during May which is Mental Health Awareness Month AND for the first time, the habits are available in FRENCH. Our resident illustrator Iván Mayorquín transports us to the 1950’s and effortlessly captures the vibe and feel of that decade. Registration is FREE with an option for a paid tier that includes a commemorative t-shirt, with family and group discounts available. Thanks to our sponsors American Campus Communities and The Ector Theatre (Odessa, TX).

The THRIVING COLLEGE STUDENTS INDEX REPORT is HERE!

The College Student Mental Wellness Advocacy Coalition envisions a world where all young adults thrive with the support of residential communities whose teams are dedicated to promoting and advocating for mental wellness. Composed of 24 college student residential housing companies across the U.S., the Coalition is committed to better understanding our residents, encouraging open dialogues, and raising public awareness about the importance of mental wellness. Our teams are dedicated to promoting and advocating for mental wellness to facilitate personal fulfillment, academic success, and the realization of each of our resident’s full potential.

For the past two years, the Hi, How Are You Project conducted a College Student Fall Mental Wellness Survey to better understand the student experience. The goal? To create customized peer-to-peer training programs that have become guiding tenets for American Campus Communities’ (ACC) Residence Life program. In 2022, ACC and Hi, How Are You Project expanded the effort, which led to the creation of the College Student Mental Wellness Advocacy Coalition. This collaboration brings together the nation’s leading student housing providers to better understand and improve their residents’ mental health and wellness.

This report highlights the findings from the 2022 Thriving College Students Survey, conducted on October 10th (World Mental Health Day) and the several weeks thereafter. The Hi, How Are You Project and the Coalition partnered with Ipsos, a world leader in research, to design and conduct the survey.

College Student Mental Wellness Advocacy Coalition members conducted email outreach to residents resulting in a total of 18,168 currently enrolled college students taking this survey, making this study one of the largest of its kind. They were given the choice to take it in English, French and Spanish. This report is intended to serve as a valuable resource for students and their peers, parents and other family members, universities, and student housing providers to support college students’ mental health and well-being. Why Mental Health?

Mental health issues affect one in four people globally

It could be you, your child, your spouse, sibling, parent, friend or co-worker.  Mental health issues affect EVERYONE in some way.  So, why is it so difficult to talk about?  If everyone is affected, why does the stigma remain?  At the Hi, How Are You Project, we asked that very question and decided we all need to do better.  We believe it is not an organizational mission, but a worldwide community mission to make a difference.
