Country newcomer Chris Lane spent the first part of the summer opening shows in ball parks for Florida Georgia Line and Nelly on the This is How We Roll summer series tour.

It was a full circle moment for the 29-year-old North Carolina native who once thought he was going to be a professional baseball player. A series of knee surgeries required he set different career goals.

“Never did I ever want to sing in front of anybody,” he said. “It’s pretty mind-blowing that I went from playing on baseball fields my entire life to playing music with Florida Georgia Line and Nelly in baseball stadiums.”

Lane, whose single “Broken Windshield View” is now at country radio, said he remembered getting the call that Florida Georgia Line wanted him to fill the opening spot on that tour.

“I remember dropping the phone and running through my house and screaming, ‘Is this real life?’” he recalled. “I couldn’t believe they would ask me to do that ... I got to learn from two of the best in the game every single night. Those guys have been like a brother to me out there on the road. I’m living out my dream.”

Now that the tour is over, Lane said he’s looking forward to winning over even more fans when he’s out on the road this summer playing the county fair circuit.

But the said the one thing that’s more important to him than his success in country music is his Christian faith.

“I want people to know that I have strong faith and God is one thing that I try to keep first and foremost more than anything else,” he said. “My prayer is that I would rather not be successful and lose all of that than to be successful and have no faith.”
