Village Capital, an investment nonprofit focused on global issues, will be working with Nashville health-care entrepreneurs to provide digital solutions targeting low-income patients as part of a partnership with the Nashville Entrepreneur Center.

Village Capital, along with Michigan-based The Kresge Foundation, chose Nashville, Philadelphia and San Francisco for its initiative.  As part of Village Capital Health US 2016, entrepreneurs will participate in three four-day workshops in Nashville in October. Similar workshops will be held in Philadelphia in November and San Francisco in January. The application deadline is Aug. 1.

Because education, income and other social determinants are indicators of health, individuals living in low-income areas often are more susceptible to chronic disease. The workshops will focus on ways to improve health care in those communities through new technology.

“We believe that technology can play a vital role in enabling the most vulnerable patients to have better health outcomes, and we are excited to support entrepreneurs creating solutions to the most pressing health needs of underserved communities,” said Allyson Plosko, Manager of Village Capital’s Health practice.

Village Capital, based in Washington, D.C., supports early-stage entrepreneurs focused on solving problems for underserved populations. Since 2009, the group has supported more than 500 entrepreneurs.
