Dustin Lynch has a “little mind reader” on his hands.

In a video that’s not short on tarot cards, Lynch takes PEOPLE behind the scenes of the clip for his new hit single.

“This is an idea that [director] Mason Dixon came up with – a guy I’ve been a huge fan of for a long time,” Lynch tells PEOPLE.

“The video is a night playing out between me and my [love] interest, my little mind reader. We’re cutting back-and-forth to our night together – with [this girl] turning over tarot cards, and then at the end, it cuts to me coming up to the house.”

It turns out “the whole time that she’s turning these cards over, she was predicting the night that was about to happen,” he explains. “I love the twist to it. I thought it was really fitting for the lyrics of the song and it was a lot of fun to make.”

“Mind Reader” is the third single off of Lynch’s second album, Where It’s At.

“It’s so much fun to perform live,” the country singer-songwriter, 30, says of why he chose the tune. “It allows me to really interact with the crowd.”

“It’s got a great groove to it and melodically is incredible – and I love the message behind it,” he continues. “It’s encouraging the girls, ‘Hey, it’s okay if you guys make the first move.'”

As far as mind-reading in real life, “the only time” Lynch jokes he’d want to read someone else’s mind would be a date “wondering if I should go in for a kiss.”

“Other than that I think that would be really scary,” he admits. “I don’t want to know what other people are thinking.”

Along with releasing his new video, Lynch is currently on tour with fellow country star Luke Bryan for the second time.

“It’s really comfortable,” says Lynch of touring together again. “Luke and I, and the crews and bands – we all get along. We all know each other, so we know how the others operate and what to expect – and it’s really a well-oiled machine now.”

He adds: “We’re having a lot of fun and I’m just looking forward to [doing] another lap of life with him – and hopefully I don’t screw it up too bad.”

Lynch has even become “like Luke’s little brother” – childish antics included!

“Last week, I came out of catering with a plate full of food, I was headed back to the bus to write a song – and he’s sitting on a road case in the back hallway,” the musician shares of a recent prank gone awry.

“As I walked by, he kicks the plate of food up in the air and it goes all over me and all over the hall. I’m like the freshman in high school, getting picked on by the senior.”

However, “it’s all in good fun!” Lynch says. “We have a blast together and I’ve learned to dish it right back.”
