Spanish singer-songwriter Alvaro Soler, 24, scales Billboard‘s Latin charts with his Jennifer Lopez-assisted version of his breakout hit “El Mismo Sol” (UMLE), which first took hold in Europe earlier in 2015. The track bounds 50-25 in its second week on Latin Airplay, while leaping 44-34 on Hot Latin Songs. Shy Carter bullets at No. 39 on Rhythmic Songs with his hooky debut hit “Bring It Back,” featuring Aleon Craft (Latium/RCA). While he’s written for the likes of Nelly and Ashanti, Carter has previously made his chart mark as a writer – and in genres other than R&B/hip-hop. Formerly the lead vocalist of alternative band Default, Dallas Smith bubbles under Country Airplay with his tribute to U.S. auto culture, “Kids With Cars.” The Langley, B.C., native’s album Lifted Here won the 2015 Canadian Country Music Association album of the year award. His new single is the title track from his five-song EP, released Sept. 11 on Nashville-based Blaster Records. –Jim Asker
