International Women’s Day 2023: “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 each year. It provides an opportunity to come together to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, environmental, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

To recognise and celebrate this important day, Diversity and Inclusion, the Women at Sydney Network, and the SAGE Program will be hosting an event that focuses on this year’s theme DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.

We are excited to have broadcaster, columnist, and author Antionette Lattouf, delivering a keynote speech:

“There's growing criticism about International Women's Day events that speak to a certain type of women's lived experiences. More often than not, it's the domain of urban, middle-class, straight, cis-gendered and able-bodied white women. This is not to say that equality has been achieved, even by the most privileged and well-resourced women, however, when feminism isn't intersectional, Antoinette Lattouf says it's akin to white supremacy in red bottom heels.
In honouring this year's theme DigitALL, how do we ensure that the brand of feminism we champion looks after the needs of ALL women, even those who are very different to us?”

Professor Rae Cooper, Professor of Gender, Work and Employment Relations, and Director of the Gender Equality in Working Life Research Initiative, will will then facilitate a conversation with Antoinette Lattouf.

The Chancellor Belinda Hutchinson AC, and Vice-Chancellor and Principal Mark Scott AO, will be joining us to provide their reflections on why gender equity remains a strategic priority for the University and some of our recent progress and future focus.

  • Time: 11AM – 12PM (followed by light lunch and refreshments)
