TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Georgia's peanut industry contributes about 1.3 billion dollars annually to the state economy.

For the 40th year, banks across Georgia are celebrating Georgia Peanut Bank Week.

South Georgia Banking Company in Tifton is using this week to salute peanut farmers.

The week long event includes peanut butter drives, recipes using peanuts and promotions in all 8 branches of the bank.

"We've already collected some 2000 jars of peanut butter that we will be giving back to the community and spreading some hope for those who are not as fortunate," said Glenn Willis, President.

The drive will be going on at all South Georgia Banking Company locations throughout the remainder of the week.
