The Fellowship Program annually selects and supports artists, scholars, and public intellectuals who bring both a record of achievement and exceptional promise to the Institute.
Radcliffe fellows are individuals at different stages of their careers who come to the Institute from across the United States and around the world and represent a broad range of academic, professional, and artistic fields. Fellows work on an individual project—a novel, a film, a map of the Milky Way—while mining and deepening the knowledge, ingenuity, and talent of the Harvard University community. Projects range from the poetic to the cosmic. Past fellows include Jill Lepore, Samantha Power, Zadie Smith, Elizabeth Warren, and the Nobel Laureate Michael Kremer.

Remembering Jonathan Sterne
Jonathan Sterne, the 2024–2025 William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Fellow at Radcliffe, passed away on March 20 at age 54 after a brief stay in hospice.
Since 2014, Sterne served as the James McGill Professor of Culture and Technology at McGill University, and his scholarship centered around media, technology, and the politics of culture. At Radcliffe, he was writing a book about sound and artificial intelligence.
To say that Sterne was beloved by his fellow fellows would understate his impact. By all accounts, he was a joy to have at Radcliffe, the rare scholar and insightfully open mind that makes fellowships last well beyond their year. Colleagues praised his intellectual generosity. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Rentschler. We at Radcliffe mourn his passing, sending our collective love and thoughts to his beloved family, friends, and colleagues.
