The Skillery, a Germantown co-working and learning space, is offering a one-day workshop on July 18 to help aspiring entrepreneurs learn practical and approachable business advice.

The Introduction to Entrepreneurship session is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 18. Matt Dudley, the founder of The Skillery, will guide a small group through entrepreneurial basics — establishing a strong foundation, finding customers, branding, marketing, legal and accounting.

"This is very hands-on. This is very practical," Dudley said. "This is really about teaching skills."

Unlike a conference setting, the workshop focuses on collaborating and working with other entrepreneurs to develop business models and identify possible strengths and weaknesses. Dudley believes learning a structured approach to building a business will not only help the entrepreneur grow his business but also help lead the entrepreneur to honestly evaluate his business idea.

The Skillery has a more intensive nine-week program, CO.STARTERS, but Dudley felt it was important to offer a less expensive and less time-consuming alternative for people who want to learn basic entrepreneurial skills.

"We know there's a class of hopeful entrepreneurs in Nashville that isn't quite ready to jump into CO.STARTERS — they're just starting to develop an idea," Dudley said in a press release. "This is our way of serving those people — ushering them into entrepreneurship and empowering them to build a strong, rewarding business."

Introduction to Entrepreneurship is open to all aspiring entrepreneurs. Tickets cost $199 and include course materials, breakfast, lunch, snacks, coffee and a post-workshop happy hour.
