Sydney Nano, University of Sydney’s Post

Last week, Sydney Nano, University of Sydney held our inaugural NanoPitch event on the theme: Driving Health Innovation. This night showcased some of the amazing research coming out of the University of Sydney, from manufacturing 3D-printed materials for novel healthcare solutions to developing sensors that draw inspiration from cancer sniffing dogs. Thank you to our judges Prof Anthony Weiss, Prof Julie Cairney, and Dr John Kurek (Uniseed) for your insightful questions and valuable feedback to our pitchers. Thanks as well to our Deputy Directors for Industry, Innovation, and Commercialisation Prof Stephanie Watson and Dr Maria Rumyantseva for organising this event, alongside our Senior Research Officer for NanoHealth Gaurav Singhai PhD. And of course, thank you to our excellent pitchers, who shared their innovative solutions to critical health issues including aggressive cancers and corneal diseases; Prof Vesna Miletic, A/Prof Ann Kwan, Dr. Mahbub Hassan, Dr Hien Duong, Dr Matthew Griffith, Dr Clara Thao Hoang Tran, A/Prof Stefano Palomba, and Matthew Hadden. Congratulations to Dr Hien Duong for winning first place as well as the People's Choice award, and to Dr Matthew Griffith as the runner up. All pitches were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed learning about your research! Finally, thank you to our mentors A/Prof Alice Motion, Prof Stephanie Watson, Nicholas McKay (孟克培), Rupal Ismin, and Dr Julius Juarez for enabling our pitchers to better showcase their excellent research. If you were able to make it, we hope you enjoyed the event and learnt something new. We hope to see you at the next one!
