The University of Mississippi and Encompass

Dear Faculty and Staff,

After priority registration last week, we want to thank you for the meaningful role you played in supporting our students as registration occurred in Experience, the new academic portal, for the first time.

We extend our deepest appreciation to the Banner teams across campus, who dedicated countless hours to support the campus through this transition.

We particularly want to thank the Office of the Registrar, the IT Helpdesk, and Deans' Offices for their hands-on approach during priority registration to guide students towards successfully registering. Their dedication to working directly with students helped to keep our registration numbers on track with prior years. As of April 16, over 13,000 students have registered.

We also know many of you stepped in to answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and help students navigate a new process, often in real time. Your partnership made a meaningful difference. All of these efforts truly reflect how our campus supports our students.

While the majority of students were able to successfully register, we recognize that this transition was not without challenges. We are continuing to work closely across the Registrar’s Office, Deans’ Offices, and IT to address remaining issues and support any students who are still finalizing their schedules.

Ongoing support and next steps:

  • The IT Helpdesk remains engaged in resolving any remaining technical issues
  • Deans’ Offices will continue working with students who need overrides or course access adjustments
  • Dean’s Offices will continue to monitor course demand and work with the Office of the Registrar to make adjustments, including adding sections as needed, particularly to support students nearing graduation

Your guidance to students remains important, encouraging them to stay connected with their advisor and appropriate support offices, which will help ensure they are able to complete registration successfully. The IT Helpdesk remains the primary way for students to find support.

We also want to reaffirm our shared priority: ensuring students stay on track and continue progressing toward their degrees. We are committed to making adjustments to support that outcome.

In the coming weeks, our teams will be actively reviewing how registration performed: what worked well, where challenges occurred, and where we can improve. Part of this review will include seeking feedback from our campus stakeholders to shape future registration cycles.

Additional Banner functionality will continue to come online in the months ahead, including the launch of Degree Works (increased degree audit functionality), CRM Advise (student success system), and Accounts Receivable. By fall 2026, we will fully transition most academic processes from myOleMiss to the Banner Student Information System (SIS) and Experience as our primary academic portal

Thank you again for your flexibility, responsiveness, and continued commitment to our students during this transition. This shift to the Banner Student Information System upholds the goal of enhancing how we support our people, processes, and data.

Sincerely,
