Delaware joins gun safety coalition

Governor John Carney announced today that the state of Delaware would sign onto a coalition aimed at preventing gun violence. 

Delaware is joining five other states committed to this coalition which include; Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island along with Puerto Rico.

Carney says the state will join a multi-state task force to trace and intercept illegal guns in the region as well as work with neighboring states to enhance intelligence gathering and response efforts related to gun violence.

The partnership will also include information sharing between states about individuals who are prohibited from purchasing or possessing a firearm within each state Carney says this will  "provide law enforcement with more tools to stop violence before it happens."
