Updating the license on an existing installation

If your existing installation of IBM SPSS is unlicensed or is licensed with an authorized-user license, you can change your installation to point to the University’s license server. To do so, launch the SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard for your platform:

Windows: Start Menu -> IBM SPSS Statistics -> IBM SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard

Mac: Finder -> Applications -> IBM -> SPSS -> Statistics -> (version number) -> SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard

Then, follow the instructions for new installations beginning at step 4.

Troubleshooting and Frequently-Asked Questions

Q: I can’t connect to the license server.

A: The license server is only accessible from the Campus network. If you need to use IBM SPSS Statistics from off-campus, you must connect to the GW VPN before launching IBM SPSS Statistics. If connecting with VPN, you must remain connected to the VPN for your entire SPSS session. Note: The license server is not accessible from the GWConnect wireless network. Please make sure that you connect to GWireless, not GWConnect, to use the license server.

Q: What if I receive a warning that the license is about to expire?

A: The Columbian College Office of Technology Services (OTS) administers the campus site license for IBM SPSS Statistics. OTS will replace the licenses on the license server well before they expire. If your workstation is configured to use the license server, you do not need to take any action. Your workstation will automatically receive the updated license next time you launch IBM SPSS Statistics.

Q: What happens if I leave the University?

A: If you graduate from or end your employment with the University, you must uninstall IBM SPSS Statistics from your computer.

Q: What if I need more help?

A: Please contact your School or Division’s IT support group for assistance.
