Central Music Ensembles Set for November Performances

Central’s music program will showcase four concerts in November.

Performances will begin with a concert titled “A Pair of Threes: The First Piano Trios of Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in Douwstra Auditorium on Hoekstra Family Stage. The performance will feature John Helmich, Des Moines Symphony violinist; former Des Moines Symphony cellist Stephen Dorff; and Ian Moschenross, professor of music at Central, on piano.

Central’s Jazz Band will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, in Cox-Snow Music Center. The performance will be directed by Gabriel Espinosa, a 1979 Central graduate and associate professor of music.

ALMA will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in Cox-Snow Music Center. Espinosa will direct the concert.

Concerts will conclude for the month with a performance from the College-Community Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, in Douwstra Auditorium on Hoekstra Family Stage. The performance will feature Cynthia Krenzel, Central’s associate professor of music, on clarinet. The performance will be directed by Eileen McGonigal, assistant professor of music and director of bands.

Masks are strongly encouraged and will be provided at the door for each concert. All performances are free unless otherwise noted.
