First-round NCAA playoff foes meet in Pella Saturday

PELLA—Central College and Bethel University (Minn.) retain lofty rankings in a pair of Division III football polls.

The two will square off in one of the higher profile first-round NCAA playoff games Saturday in Pella. Central (10-0) remains at No. 10 in the AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll while moving up to No. 8 in the D3football.com Top 25 after overwhelming Buena Vista University 65-6 at Storm Lake last Saturday. Meanwhile, Bethel (8-2), which fell 29-28 on the last play of the game against No. 5 Saint John's University (Minn.), slipped to No. 17 in the AFCA poll and to No. 14 according to D3football.com.

Central has one of the highest-ranked first-round foes of any top-10 squad. The No. 2 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) has to take on No. 14/16 Trinity University in another top match-up.

Saturday's contest starts at noon at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium. All tickets are general admission and are $10 for adults or $5 for students and seniors. Children age 2 and under are admitted free. Advance tickets are available Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in the athletics office in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
