A Message from G.L. Black

Dear Vanderbilt families,

G.L. BlackCongratulations on joining our Vanderbilt community! We are excited to welcome you and your student. In my role as vice provost for student affairs and dean of students, I am privileged to take a central role in your student’s learning, development and experience as an undergraduate. My office helps students get involved in diverse learning communities and provides structure that enriches the overall student experience.

To help students navigate the expansive opportunities and inevitable stressors of their college experience at Vanderbilt, our Student Affairs division seeks to cultivate vibrant, inclusive communities that foster a student’s sense of belonging and well-being.

Once your student has settled in, they will have the opportunity to attend the Student Involvement Fair and the Service Fair, where they can learn about more than 475 student organizations that we have on campus. The Student Affairs team members who support these organizations will help them find meaningful experiences and continue developing leadership skills to make a difference in their communities.

Inevitably, your student will need additional support at one time or another while navigating life at Vanderbilt, and the Student Affairs team will be here to support them. Our Student Care
Network provides a holistic network of health and wellness services and community resources bolstered by four primary offices, including Student Care Coordination, the University
Counseling Center, the Student Health Center and the Center for Student Wellbeing.

Vanderbilt’s health and wellness infrastructure was built to provide the care, guidance and support your student needs to grow and thrive at Vanderbilt and beyond. Again, we could not be more thrilled to welcome your student to campus this month.

Sincerely,

G.L. Black
Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
