| Dr. Stephanie Storms
Interim Dean, Graduate Studies
|
|
|
|
It’s my pleasure to announce that Dr. Stephanie Storms will serve as interim dean of Graduate Studies. Dr. Storms joined the Sacramento State community in August 2025 as interim dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies and has provided leadership for both areas during the past year. She brings more than two decades of higher education leadership experience, with a proven track record that includes overseeing academic programs, leading strategic planning initiatives, implementing assessment and accreditation processes, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Additionally, she secured more than $700,000 in external funding and grants throughout her career.
Prior to joining Sacramento State, Dr. Storms served as assistant provost for Faculty Affairs, Development, and Diversity at Palo Alto University, where she led faculty affairs, managed budgets exceeding $1.6 million, and supervised multiple departments. Her background includes progressive leadership roles across diverse educational contexts, from community colleges to R1 research universities. As associate dean at Fairfield University, she coordinated 13 academic programs and supported strategic planning initiatives, demonstrating her ability to manage complex academic operations while supporting undergraduate and graduate programs. She is a first-generation college student who holds an Ed.D. in Social Justice Education from the University of Massachusetts, an M.Ed. in Community Counseling, and a B.A. in Psychology from Kent State University.
Her considerable higher education leadership experience, collaborative leadership style, and commitment to supporting students, staff, and faculty will be valuable assets as she continues building on the strong foundation established in graduate education and academic operations at Sacramento State.

| Dr. Greg B. C. Shaw
Interim Dean, Undergraduate Studies and Academic Innovation

|
It’s my pleasure to announce that Dr. Greg B. C. Shaw will serve as interim dean of Undergraduate Education and Academic Innovation. Dr. Shaw joined the Hornet family in 2000 and currently serves as interim dean for the College of Education and director of Academic Affairs for Sacramento State Placer. During his career, he guided faculty through structural changes at the department and college levels and oversaw successful efforts to increase and manage enrollment and student unit loads. He supported efforts that connected college faculty and students to community agencies, acquired new facility space and support for clinic expansions, and guided budget decisions as chair of the University Budget Advisory Committee. He also created new degree programs designed to better position undergraduate students for careers in the region and played key creative roles in initiatives such as Health Hive and Project Future.
Dr. Shaw previously served as associate dean for Operations, Budget and Planning in the College of Health and Human Services, faculty fellow, department chair for Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration, and department faculty. Before joining Sacramento State, he taught elementary school in Inglewood, California. His leadership development includes completion of the American Council on Education’s Leadership Academy, the North American Association of Summer Sessions New Administrator Program, and Sacramento State’s Academic Leadership Development Program. He is currently a member of American Leadership Forum’s Class XXXIII. Dr. Shaw earned a Ph.D. in Geography with a graduate minor in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Davis, a Master of Science in Recreation Administration from Sacramento State, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
His extensive academic leadership experience, understanding of Sacramento State, and demonstrated ability to support students, faculty, and programs will be valuable assets to undergraduate education and the University.

Dr. Ana Garcia-Nevarez
Interim Dean, College of Education

It’s my pleasure to announce that Dr. Ana Garcia-Nevarez will serve as interim dean of the College of Education. Dr. Garcia-Nevarez joined Sacramento State’s College of Education in 2002 and is a professor in the Child and Adolescent Development program. She has advanced through a range of academic and administrative leadership positions, including program coordinator, department chair, branch chair of Undergraduate Studies in Education, and interim associate dean. In that role, she helped establish the College of Education Student Success Center, bringing together advising, academic planning, and career exploration to support student persistence.
Dr. Garcia-Nevarez served as associate dean of the College of Education and Allied Studies at California State University, East Bay, from 2023 to 2025, where she led academic and administrative operations, including fiscal oversight, faculty recruitment, and strategic enrollment planning. Additionally, she served on university-wide initiatives supporting student success and contributed to the university’s Hispanic-Serving Institution Collaborative, including the Seal of Excelencia application. She served as statewide project director and co-principal investigator of UP-LIFT CA, a $4.47 million initiative that strengthened early childhood educator preparation and advanced equity for multilingual learners, from 2021 to 2023. Her academic work focuses on early childhood education, bilingual education, and equity-focused practices, and she has further developed her executive leadership through the CSU Leadership Academy and the Women’s Leadership Institute. Dr. Garcia-Nevarez earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Elementary and Bilingual Education and her M.Ed. in School Psychology from Arizona State University, and her B.A. in Psychology and Child Development from California State University, Northridge.
Her breadth of academic and administrative leadership experience and deep understanding of the College’s history, programs, and communities, along with her commitment to collaboration and shared governance, will be valuable assets to the College of Education and the University.
