TEXT MESSAGING IN THE WORKS FOR SVDP SCHOOL
In an effort to improve on communications to parents, the school has been exploring options in addition to its use of Emma, a bulk email provider. Given its more immediate nature both in terms of sending and receiving/being read, text messaging was one of those options.
Flocknote, used by the Parish for its newsletters and other communications, has SMS (text) messaging capabilities built into its system. Parish staff have indicated that the school could piggyback on their Flocknote platform for text messaging purposes. While the school does not anticipate making regular, let alone frequent, use of text messaging, events of an emergency or important nature that may arise would make an SMS option useful.
In order to take advantage of Flocknote capability, the school needs to collect cell phone information from all parents who wish to receive text messages from the school. While we have cell phone numbers for most parents already in PowerSchool, some of those may be outdated, so a fresh start is advisable.
Accordingly, if you wish to be on SVdP's text messaging list, we are asking families to complete and submit a form detailing your contact information and giving the school permission to send you text messages. Only contact information provided via the form will be included in the school Flocknote database.
Each form submission allows for providing two cell phone numbers; please put a different first and last name for each cell phone number to avoid errors when data is imported to Flocknote.
Including email addresses is an element on the form as well; should Flocknote not be able to send a text message to the number(s) you provide, an email will be sent instead. The email address you provide for Contact #1 on the form will receive a confirmation for your submission.
