What else can we see in the sky at this time of year other than snow flakes? Lots of things! Stars, constellations, planets, and other deep sky objects dazzle in the cold winter nights. This virtual planetarium show will include an overview of what we can see in the sky from our perspective here in the Northern Hemisphere, and will also feature a virtual trip to the Southern Hemisphere, where it is currently summer and different constellations can be seen. Finally, I will highlight recent observations of a distant galactic core, where a star appears to be getting slowly torn apart each time it swings by the insatiable supermassive black hole at the galaxy’s center. ...more
