Oregon fair housing laws have protected the LGBTQIA+ community against discrimination in housing since 2008. Under the Biden Administration, recent changes have added these protections on a federal level as well.
In this presentation, Dario Hunter provides an overview of existing protections, gives insight to recent changes in Federal Fair Housing protections for the LGBTQIA+ community, and discusses a brief history of housing discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community.
About the Presenter
Dario Hunter is the Central Oregon Education and Outreach Specialist at the Fair Housing Council of Oregon. His experience has been primarily in the legal and educational fields. He has practiced international environmental law in Haifa, Israel, as well as served as a high school teacher, a K-8 educational administrator, a paralegal instructor, and a member of the Youngstown, Ohio Board of Education.
A graduate of Princeton University (BA - History), Dario earned three subsequent law degrees in the US and Canada – a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor (Windsor, Ontario), a Master of Laws from Wayne State University (Detroit, Michigan), and a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy (Detroit, Michigan).
Dario served as the rabbi of Ohev Tzedek - Shaarei Torah (Boardman, Ohio), and as the Coordinator for Jewish Life at the College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio). His experience in spiritual counseling aids his trauma-informed approach to outreach on housing issues.
