May 24 – Cosmic Distances

Space is big. Really BIG. How do astronomers determine astronomical distances? Join us as we voyage from the closest satellites to the most distant known objects in our universe. It’ll be a journey that’ll have you asking “Are we there yet?”

May 31 – Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Stars – these seemingly insignificant flickering points of light in our night sky – are actually enormous balls of hot plasma with life cycles beginning and ending in a spectacularly violent fashion. Our Sun, which provides the light and warmth required for our planet to thrive, is just one of hundreds of billions that exist in our Milky Way galaxy. Join us in exploring where stars come from, the death of stars, black holes, and some of the many other solar systems out there!

June 7 - Alabama Summer Skies

Navigate your way through what's up in the summer in this live, guided tour of the night sky. Learn to find stars, constellations, planets, and other far out objects (such as nebulae and even galaxies) with imagery from telescopes like Hubble & Webb. A traditional planetarium experience with a modern kick of technology, take your newly acquired knowledge and explore the night sky from your own backyard.

June 14 – Black Holes

Imagine falling into a black hole. Sounds bad for starters, but from super-massive black holes like Sagittarius A* to stellar mass black holes like Cygnus X-1, these phenomena attract the attention of scientists and the public. Heavy conversation aside, get pulled in for Cocktails & Cosmos and a peek at what black holes are and how they work.

June 21 – Aliens

As a human species, we have long felt we are not alone. From UFO sightings to abduction reports, some believe that extraterrestrial life not only exists within our galaxy but potentially even our own backyard. Are aliens real? If they are, where would we find them? Why do they insist on ruining our crops with their circles? Join the INTUITIVE® Planetarium staff as we explore the possibilities of intelligent life beyond our solar system!

Pardon our pun, but asteroids rock! While these large space rocks can cause catastrophic events, like the mass extinction of dinosaurs over 65 million years ago, asteroids are so much more than that! These planetary building blocks are pristine windows to our early solar system, giving us a glimpse into our past and providing vital information to protect our future. Join us for Space Rocks, a showcase of the human innovation and ingenuity behind our missions to study them.
