Health officials confirm nearly 1,900 new COVID-19 cases, 12 new COVID-19 related deaths

The Kern County Public Health Department confirmed Tuesday nearly 1,900 new COVID-19 cases in Kern County and 12 new COVID-19 related deaths.

This brings the total number of deaths to 135 and the total number of cases to 16,896.

Of the total cases, 5,399 people have recovered.

The California Department of Public Health reported Sunday that 46 percent of Kern’s COVID-19 deaths have been identified at Latino; 30 percent has been identified as white; and 13 percent has been identified as Asian.

There are also 255 people who tested positive for COVID-19 being hospitalized, according to the state. Of this total, 197 people are isolating in the hospital, according to Kern Public Health, and 69 people are in the Intensive Care Unit, leaving 51 ICU beds available, according to the State.
