March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day. 3/21 symbolizes the third copy of the 21st chromosome in people with down syndrome.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal condition diagnosed in the United States. Each year, they report 1 in 700 babies are born in the U.S. with Down syndrome.

The Museum of disABILITY in Buffalo is recognizing World Down Syndrome Day. They have an exhibit called "In Celebration of Down Syndrome." It showcases the medical history, myths and misconceptions, vocational success stories and pop culture of those who have down syndrome.

The museum is open from 10 to 4 and they are waiving the entry fees in honor of the day.

You might also see people wearing crazy socks on World Down Syndrome Day. People wear brightly colored socks, long socks, printed socks or maybe three socks, all to get others to ask them about it and continue a conversation about the disability.

The Peace Bridge will also be lit in blue and yellow Wednesday night. Blue and yellow are the colors of Down syndrome awareness.
