New York, N.Y. – Stockton University began the 2022-23 indoor track & field season by competing in the TCNJ Winter Open at historic New York Armory. The Ospreys were among 14 teams at the meet, mostly from Division III and including fellow NJAC squads The College of New Jersey and Ramapo.
Stockton competitors won four events, two each on the men's and women's sides, with three of the victories coming from rookies. Senior
Shahyan Abraham (Orange/Orange) led the Ospreys by winning the weight throw (15.52m) and finishing second in the shot put (12.75m). Both events had fields of 16.
Stockton fared well in the women's 400m as freshman
Emma Conroy (Matawan/Matawan) won in her first college race (1:01.42) and fellow rookie
Emma Petrolia (New Milford/New Milford) finished third out of 19 (1:02.56).
In addition to Abraham in the shot put, the Osprey women registered three more runner-up finishes.
Susann Foley (Tabernacle/Seneca) placed second out of 14 in the high jump (1.57m),
Madison Fey (Easton, Pa./Freedom) finished second out of 10 in the pole vault (3.05m) and freshman
Madelyn Valasek (Medford/Shawnee) was second out of 15 in the mile (5:29.87).
A pair of freshmen led the Stockton men's team with wins in their first college meet.
Connor Wright (Sicklerville/Hammonton) won the long jump in a field of 20 (6.96m) and
Christian Rowe (Bayville/Central Regional) won the triple jump out of 14 (13.23m).
Freshman
Gavin Lum (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) finished fifth out of 17 in the pole vault (4.40m) and
Ian Adjangba (Howell/Howell) placed fifth out of 20 in the 400m (53.18 seconds).
Stockton will compete in the Bow Tie Invitational at Ursinus College on Friday, December 9 at 4 p.m.
