Brigantine, N.J. – Stockton University hosted the third annual Battle of Brigantine Regatta over the weekend. Due to strong winds, the two-day event was shortened to two races on Saturday morning featuring Stockton, Jefferson, Washington College and Franklin & Marshall.

The Osprey varsity eight finished third in an extremely close race with a time of 6:37.1 that trailed Jefferson (6:36.2) and Washington College (6:36.78) by the slightest of margins. Stockton crossed the line well ahead of fourth-place Franklin & Marshall (7:11.02).

Joslynn Hurley (Epsom, N.H./Pembroke), Madelynn Schina (Somerdale/Highland), Megan Baldwin (Brigantine/Holy Spirit), Amber Hartzell (Merchantville/Haddon Hts.), Marissa Martinelli (Burlington/Burington Twp.), Ashley Timm (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT), Emily Latshaw (Toms River/TR South) and Sydney Rowand (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) rowed, with Lorie Hendricks (Burlington/Doane Academy) as the coxswain.

Stockton, Jefferson and Washington College stayed within one length of each other throughout the race. The Ospreys were second behind Jefferson for the majority, and they held a boat length lead over Washington College early.

Conditions worsened in the last 500 meters and the race tightened. Stockton's momentum slowed in the final eight strokes when an oar got caught in the water, and the Ospreys were passed by the Shorewomen, resulting in the third-place finish with all three boats separated by less than a second.

The second varsity eight won its heat with a time of 7:21.54 that was three seconds in front of Jefferson (7:24.9), with Washington College a distant third (7:45.05). Kelley Mason (Manhattan/St. Vincent Ferrer) was the coxswain for the Ospreys.

Lex Zang (San Carlos, Calif./Carlmont), Katie Kurtz (Galloway/Cedar Creek), Erin O'Brien (Edgewater Park/Burlington City), Emily Little (Wildwood/Wildwood), Lexi Kripetz (Clinton/Voorhees), Kimberly Canelas (Galloway/ACIT), Jordan Barikian (Cape May/Lower Cape May) and Jayne Seitz (Cape May CH/Cape May Tech) rowed in the second varsity eight race.

Stockton will head to upstate New York for the Skidmore Sprints at Fish Creek on April 6.
