Biography

Gary Weissel is the Managing Officer of Tronos Aviation Consulting. He leads all of the firm’s activities including Asset and Technical Management, Aircraft Specification and Interior/BFE Management, Program Management, Aircraft Trading, Market Forecasting and Investment Due Diligence and OEM Strategy Consulting. Prior to starting Tronos Aviation Consulting, Gary was the co-Managing Officer of ICF SH&E’s Aviation and Aerospace Practice where he led the firm’s consulting staff of over 75 consultants in 7 major offices world-wide. Before joining ICF SH&E, he was a Senior Program Manager with B/E Aerospace’s Seating Products Group (now known as Collins Aerospace). Gary began his aviation career with nine years with Delta Air Lines, Inc. in various positions within their engineering and technical specification departments. He started at Delta as an engineering co-op while attending Georgia Tech

Gary has a variety of industry experiences including (but not limited too) airline start-up, aircraft leasing and trading, mergers and acquisitions, market forecasting, new aircraft development programs, certification, aviation safety and operations consulting, industry growth and cluster studies, aviation safety and compliance auditing and many others. He has also participated in governmental related assignments such as auditing the FAA on behalf of the US DOT Inspector General and was on a Congressional Research Committee for the feasibility of on-board wheelchair securement systems in commercial aircraft. He continues to participate in R&D related to on-board wheelchairs with the University of Michigan.

He is an active participant in a number of industry associations including the International Society of Transport Aircraft Traders (ISTAT) and a board member on the Air Transport Research International Forum (ATRIF). He has completed ISO9001:2000 lead auditor training and the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Operational Safety Auditor (IOSA) training program in addition to a number of industry and company led training courses in a variety of specialties. He is also a licensed pilot.

Gary is currently the chair of the GT Aerospace Engineering School Advisory Council (AESAC) and a member of the College of Engineering of Engineering External Advisory Board. He is regularly called upon to act as an expert witness in aviation related litigation both in the US and abroad. He is a regular speaker at industry events and conferences, has appeared on CNN and NBC as an aviation expert in various topics and is regularly quoted in industry periodicals and publications.
