A walk of remembrance in honor of international overdose awareness to start at parking lot #5 and end at the SO-44 Rotunda, outside of the Social Work Building. PLEASE WEAR PURPLE!!!
The walk will start at 11:00 AM. There will be some parking available at lot 5, but there is no way of anticipating how much. We suggest arriving early. In the event, there is no parking leftover at lot 5, there is metered parking available around the campus.
Underneath the rotunda, resource tables and a podium will be set up for a short panel discussion to include parents of students lost to overdose, as well as two students speaking about the importance of the Collegiate Recovery Community at FAU and how the organization has been supportive. The panel discussion is expected to start between 11:30 and 11:45.
After the discussion, Rebel Recovery Center, a Recovery Community Organization serving Palm Beach County, has provided Naloxone, an intranasal medication that reverses the effects of an opiate overdose, to be distributed at no cost.
According to the Center for Disease Control (2021), last year, overdose claimed 93,331 lives in the United States. We hope that this event raises awareness, fights the stigma of addiction and recovery, and ultimately saves lives!
