Cidny has laid himself bare and the results are wonderful!
Sir Elton John-June 2020
BIOGRAPHY
This two-time Grammy nominee’s career has taken Cidny from singing back-up on tour with Elton John, on record with Rod Stewart, (and even a few gigs with Bob Dylan), plus singing lead vocals on the “Grease” movie soundtrack to having nine critically acclaimed solo albums, including the award winning Desire Wire, Somewhere Between Heaven and Earth, Neverland, dream #29, and Howling Trains and Barking Dogs.
Cid’s friends on the albums include friends Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Bryan Adams, Emmylou Harris, Delbert McClinton, and Sir Elton John himself. Cidny has also co-written songs in Nashville for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Dixie Chicks, and several charting singles including Radney Foster’s hit “Hammer and Nails”.
Since 2007, Cidny has been one-third of “super-group”, The Refugees- with Wendy Waldman and Deborah Holland. Their fourth album California was released in May of 2024.
In 2011, Cidny made the difficult and daunting decision to physically transition from Cindy to Cidny. He wrote and performed his one-person theatrical show Somewhere Between: Not An Ordinary Life, the story of his personal journey, all over the U.S. from 2016-2018.
In 2019-20, a documentary short about Cid's life, directed by T.J. Parsell, called The Gender Line screened at major film festivals around the world and won multiple awards, including several "Best Documentary Short".
In late 2023, Cid's first album as “Cidny Bullens” was released on the venerable indie label Kill Rock Stars (Nashville imprint) entitled Little Pieces. The album was co-produced in Nashville with longtime friend Ray Kennedy (Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, Lucinda Williams, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), and features Rodney Crowell, Mary Gauthier, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Siobhan Kennedy among others.
Cid's memoir TransElectric: My Life as a Cosmic Rock Star--with forward by Sir Elton John--was released in June 2023 to much critical acclaim. The book itself includes praise from the likes of Pulitzer Prize journalist Carl Bernstein, Bonnie Raitt, Billie Jean King, Rodney Crowell, Mary Gauthier, music author and critic Dave Marsh, manager, record executive Danny Goldberg, and author and world-renowned transgender advocate and educator Jamison Green, among others.
In the summer/fall of 2024, Cid debuted his acting career on stage in Los Angeles creating the role of Albert, the lead character, in a new musical The Civility of Albert Cashier.
He is currently working on new music for an upcoming album which will include a duet with longtime friend Lucinda Williams of Cid's poignant song “Boxing With God” from his renowned 1999 album Somewhere Between Heaven and Earth.
Along with continuing to write and perform his music, Cid is also a fierce transgender and LGBTQIA advocate and a highly regarded public speaker.
