NEW ORLEANS — The Mayor’s Office of Youth and Families, together with the City Council, has announced the winners of the Mask Wearing Poster Contest to raise awareness about the importance of masking up to stop the spread of COVID-19. The winning posters will be featured in a citywide campaign promoting mask wearing.
The following winners were chosen from a total of 81 submissions:
- Dai'Ja Alford (4th-8th grade poster winner)
- Isabella 'Izzy' Harrell (high school poster winner)
- Raeann Koehler (college poster winner)
- Mauro Nunez (foreign language poster winner)
"The creative and thoughtful artwork submitted for this poster contest simply reaffirms what we already know: New Orleans' kids are incredibly gifted and have so much to say! We know that this period has been particularly hard on our young people and it's so critical that we continue to create outlets for self-expression," said Emily Wolff, Director, Mayor's Office of Youth and Families. "It is now our responsibility as a community to listen to our children, do the right thing, and mask up. On behalf of the Mayor, the Office of Youth and Families congratulates everyone who participated!"
“We have tremendously talented students in this city! The artwork that was submitted was creative, thoughtful, and clearly showcased the importance of mask wearing and taking precautions against COVID," said City Council Vice President Helena Moreno. "Now, plans are being finalized on a campaign to display the work of the four winning students all around the city. Nothing is more powerful than seeing messaging from our young people encouraging all of us to do the right thing.”
