Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-3, 3-3 NJAC) started slowly then methodically pulled away from Rutgers-Camden (0-6, 0-6 NJAC) for a 65-46 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Luciano Lubrano (Ocean City/Ocean City) was the only Osprey in double figures with a game-high 16 points.
The contest started out slow as neither team scored until the 16:17 mark of the first half. The pace picked up as the stanza was tied 6-6 before Stockton rattled off 11 straight points to take a 17-6 advantage.
A pair of three pointers by Luciano, an
Alan Glover (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) basket followed by a
Milo De Los Santos (Hopewell Valley/Hopewell Valley) trey pushed the Ospreys into a lead they would not relinquish. The first half finished up with Stockton holding a 32-23 lead at the break as Lubrano potted 11 of his markers during the opening frame.
The Scarlet Raptors came out of the break scoring the first four points to slice the margin to 32-27 with 18:30 remaining in the game, but that was as close as they would get. Baskets by
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) and
Tariq Baker (Brooklyn, NY/St. Anthony's) sandwiched a three by Lubrano to push the margin back to 12 at 39-27 with 15:37 left in the contest.
The lead ballooned to 55-34 on a De Los Santos three ball with 5:59 remaining before Stockton cleared the bench. The home team ran out the final minutes and came away with the 65-46 victory and a sweep of the Scarlet Raptors over the weekend.
Lubrano led the Ospreys with six rebounds and dished two assists during the game. Lawrence dished a game-high three assists and pilfered a pair of steals to tie
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) for team-high honors. The Osprey defense forced 24 turnovers that led to 25 points in the game and dished 12 assists on their 23 baskets.
Gavin Henry and Jaelin Keels led the Scarlet Raptors with 11 points each, with Henry grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.
Stockton will finish up the regular season with a series against Rutgers-Newark on Friday night in Newark. Game time is set for 7 p.m., with the re-match scheduled for Galloway on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
