Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-4, 1-4 NJAC) used a stifling defense early and ran away with a convincing 80-51 victory over Rutgers-Camden (0-5, 0-5 NJAC) on Friday night. Freshman
Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) led four Ospreys in double figures with career highs of 16 points and seven rebounds.
The Scarlet Raptors started quickly, jumping out to a 12-2 lead with 5:50 left in the opening frame before the Ospreys put on a surge of 22 unanswered points. Eighteen straight points to end the first frame, led by five markers each from freshman
Jordyn Madigan (Toms River/Toms River East) and
Nalya Hill (Bloomfield/DePaul Catholic), put Stockton up 20-12 after one period.
The Ospreys kept the pressure on, tallying the first four points of the second quarter before Rutgers-Camden finally ended the surge with a pair of foul shots. Stockton finished out the stanza leading 36-21 with Madigan scoring eight points during the first half to top the home team.
The visitors hit the first two points to begin the third period, but Stockton surged ahead again. Seven consecutive points, led by
Aiya Underwood (Highland Park/Highland Park) with four markers, put the Ospreys comfortably ahead at 43-24 at the 6:38 mark. A 24-14 third period made it 60-35 Stockton and they never looked back as the margin never fell below 25 points in the 80-51 rout.
In addition to Jennings, Hill also posted a career high with 14 points. Underwood hit for 11 points in a personal best while Madigan added 10 points and five rebounds for her career best. The rookie also led all players with three steals.
Maddie McCracken (Wildwood/Wildwood) topped all players with eight rebounds as Stockton held a massive 55-32 edge in rebounding, with 23 boards coming on the offensive glass. Every Stockton player that was available scored in the contest.
For Rutgers-Camden, Jalissa Pitts led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Stockton will take on Rutgers-Camden again tomorrow to finish the home and home series at Camden. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
