Dr. Seuss Week of Service is a now a longstanding tradition for the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Ohio State. While Ohio Gamma is a Chapter full of involved Brothers who frequently dedicate their time to a variety of service opportunities and philanthropic efforts, Dr. Seuss Week has become the pinnacle of Brothers serving together.
Dr. Seuss Week is a week dedicated to serving the Greater Columbus community, with an emphasis on promoting widespread children’s literacy and the importance of reading. The week is aptly named after SigEp Brother Dr. Seuss himself (Dartmouth ’25), and concluded on March 2 with a celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, which is also National Read Across America Day. This year the Brothers of SigEp paired with the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Recently back on campus with around 200 new members, the ladies of Kappa were very excited to jump in and serve Columbus alongside our Brothers.
This year, the Brothers had a goal of planning more direct service events and expanding our reach in the community. We continued our partnership with 4 of the local Columbus Metropolitan Library branches by reading to children after school as part of their reading buddies program. Many members of both SigEp and Kappa came together to give brief presentations on the history of Dr. Seuss before reading to kids and playing games with them at some of our other partner organizations. These included SON Ministries, After-School All-Stars, and the Gladden community house. Finally, we made blankets and capes to donate to the children who are sick and staying in Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Congratulations to Jason Littman, who was recognized as a Tragos Quest to Greece Scholar. He will be studying the effects of Greek culture in everyday life from June 14-24 overseas.

In February, Brothers and their moms spent their Saturday evening out on the town enjoying the annual Mom Prom. Traditionally, this event is both a brother and mother favorite. Throughout the evening, many brothers treated their moms to dinner at a restaurant and enjoyed the sights and sounds of downtown Columbus. The highlight of the evening, Mom Prom, was hosted at Trism, a transformative eatery, bar, and event space located near campus. Mom Prom consisted of great music from all eras, dancing, and a lot of great conversations.
