Stockton Holds On for 22-19 Win

St. David's, Pa. – Stockton University (14-2, 6-0 CSAC) fell behind by five goals early, but rebounded for a 22-19 win over Eastern University (7-9) on Thursday afternoon. Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) led the Ospreys with seven goals, as Stockton won their 12th straight game.

The Eagles came out firing, potting the first five goals of the game, including the first two within the first 42 seconds of the game. The home team hit the net three more times, before the Ospreys righted the ship.

An eight-goal outburst, highlighted by three goals from Sean Haddock (Hightstown/Hightstown), gave the Ospreys an 8-5 lead after one period. The Stockton goals came in spurts, with two coming from Haddock and Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) in a span of 1:07. Later, in the frame Swedlund and Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley) scored 37 seconds apart.

Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury), and Dante Poli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) finished off the eight goals with the pair hitting the net 20 seconds apart for the three-goal lead. The squads played an even second quarter, scoring five times each, allowing Stockton to maintain the three-goal margin at 13-10 at the half.

Swedlund potted the first two goals of the third period, before the home team tallied five straight markers for a 15-15 tie with 5:40 remaining in the stanza. Swedlund tallied two more markers to end the period, both assisted by Poli, to re-take the lead at 17-15 heading into the final frame.

The Ospreys scored four times against one for the Eagles to stretch the margin to 21-16 with 9:20 left in the match. Two by Swedlund, and one each by Poli and D'Arminio offset the one Eastern marker.

But the home team wasn't done as they scored three times in a span of 1:35 top pull within two at 21-19 at the 4:23 mark. Poli sealed the game with 2:46 remaining and Stockton held on for the 22-19 victory.

Swedlund's seven goals gives him 72 on the season, pushing him into second place all-time in a single season. Poli added five goals and five assists for 10 points, also moving him up the single-season records.

Poli has 50 goals for the second time in his career and his 51 assists ranks him third, just three away from the single season mark of 54 set by Erik Anderson (2019). With his total of 101 points, the senior is now tied for third in a season.

Haddock added four goals and two assists for a career-high six points, with D'Arminio getting the hat trick of three goals. Tyler Horvath (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South) was outstanding, winning 31-42 face-offs (.738), and scooping 17 ground balls, tying his career high.
