Description:
“The Return” chronicles the story of how legendary lyrical rapper, Ludacris, can’t stop eating Jif Peanut Butter – even while in the studio – and it unleashing an amazing new rap sound (often referred to as “mumble rap”). To top it off, Gunna, one of the hottest rappers of today, gives it his stamp of approval as we witness Ludacris’ epic rise into mumble rap stardom. This film truly is a window into Ludacris's world. We united him with the genius behind his most famous music videos, Dave Meyers, to give nods to his past videos while staying authentic to his “Ludacris” tone. From his iconic braids magically transforming as he raps to over-exaggerated facial features, his fingerprints were over every scene.
But we didn’t stop there. To give it even more authenticity, we brought She'kspere, the award-winning producer of Ludacris's new single, Luda's daughter, close friends, and collaborators into the film. We shot in and around Atlanta at some of his usual haunts, including the iconic Patchwerk Recording Studios. Even the pool filled with Jif was his. Yes, there’s a pool filled with Jif.
Throughout the film, Ludacris performed ‘Butter.ATL’, an original track that completely switched up Ludacris’s famous style. Rather than rap with his usual articulation, he created a track with mumbled vocal delivery and autotuned hooks over a trap beat — a true departure from his old-school roots.
