Maurita Coley Flippin has been named the new president and CEO of the Multicultural Media Telecom and Internet Council by the organization’s Board of Directors.

MMTC’s Board announced the news on Aug. 23.

MMTC is a national nonprofit organization focused on developing and helping equal opportunity become a norm in media industries.

Flippin has been a part of the MMTC organization for many years serving as acting president and CEO, executive vice president and chief operating officer and as a member on the Board of Directors.

“I have known and worked with Maurita for many years, and no one is better suited to lead MMTC,” said Ronald Johnson, MMTC board chair and treasurer, in a news release. “Her impressive background and unique combination of experience in the communications industries and nonprofit management, coupled with her deep care and passion for the work that we do and the people that we do it for left us no doubt that Maurita will take MMTC’s advocacy to new levels.”

Flippin is from Detroit. She received her bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication at Michigan State University and her law degree from Georgetown University.

Along with her many positions at MMTC, Flippin has over 30 years of work experience from other organizations. Her outside experience includes serving on the executive management team of BET Holdings, Inc., the Federal Communications Bar Association’s Executive Committee and Diversity Committee, and as chief executive for the nonprofit organization Capital Area Asset Builders.

She was also partner at several law firms including Davis Wright Tremaine.

“I look forward to working with MMTC’s board and stakeholders to sharpen our shared vision for MMTC’s role as a convener and subject matter expert on media and telecom policy, workforce development, bridging the skills gap, and advancing diversity and inclusion in the media, telecom, and tech sectors,” Flippin said, in a news release. “Following MMTC’s previous CEOs David Honig and Kim Keenan, I know I have big shoes to fill. I’m honored and humbled by the challenge.”
