Knights take fourth at MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College men's track & field team turned in eight all-conference runs—including another individual title for Gabe Nichols (Fy./Grove City, Penn./Grove City)—on the final day of competition at the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Knights finished fourth out of 11 teams with 105 points, all of which came from the running events.

The Knights had three racers score in the 600-meter run. Josh Meier (So./Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) took second overall at a personal-best 1:22.26, securing All-MIAC recognition with the No. 4 time in program history. Reese Anderson (Fy./Frontenac, Minn./Lake City) notched a time of 1:23.37 to finish fourth and earn all-conference honorable mention. Alistair Pattison (Jr./St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) was eighth at 1:25.06.

Jeremy Fong (Sr./Niiza-Shi, Japan/Christian Academy in Japan) secured All-MIAC status by virtue of his third-place result in the 1000-meter run. He took the lead from the gun and led for the first 800 meters before being overtaken by the favorite in the event. His time, a personal-best 2:32.43, ranks No. 10 in Carleton history. Meanwhile Indy Lyness (Fy./Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) added all-conference honorable mention as his personal-best time of 2:32.87 was good for fifth overall and No. 12 in team annals.

Nichols won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:23.16. He led throughout in securing his third title of the meet (along with the mile run and distance medley relay). Chris Melville (Jr./Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) and Henry Bowman (Sr./Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) earned All-MIAC Honorable mention as they finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at 8:33.86 and 8:36.84. Melville ran a patient race, sitting in 11th at the mile mark before passing runners on each of the next five laps. His time was good for a 7-second personal record. Roy Llewellyn (Fy./Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) contributed to the Knights' point total with an eighth-place result at 8:38.28.

The conference meet concluded with the 4x400-meter relay, and the quartet of Anderson, Lyness, Fong, and Meier secured All-MIAC Honorable Mention as they finished fourth with a time of 3:28.10. Meier anchored with the fastest split of the day at 51.0.
