From New York City by the way of Los Angeles, singer-songwriter Sophie Strauss is on track to release her debut EP, Yeah No Fine, April 22. In advance of the forthcoming release, we’re premiering “Walk Easy,” a song that channels the inevitable realities of an incurable relationship.

At 22, Strauss sings of drastic changes in scenery, heartbreak and her love for vintage clothing with an indie pop sound akin to her musical influences Jenny Lewis and Fiona Apple. Recorded at Santa Monica’s Endless Noise Studios, the song’s wrenching lyrics are coated with Strauss’s airy, lo-fi vocals and packaged together with a twangy guitar and infectious drum beat.

“‘Walk Easy’ is about getting enough distance from a relationship to finally see all the cracks in it, but not quite enough distance to avoid getting hurt again,” Strauss says of the song. “[It’s] about realizing you deserve better but also knowing you had hand in making everything fall apart.”
