CC Professor Explores Food Insecurity Among Black Mothers

Dr. Cayce Hughes, CC Assistant Professor of Sociology, recently published two papers stemming from his work with collaborators at Rice University and North Carolina State. Their study focuses on how low-income mothers in Sunnyside, TX, a high-poverty, historically Black neighborhood in Houston, navigate food insecurity.
CC Refugee Alliance Connects CC Community with Local Refugees

The CC Refugee Alliance provides opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to help support local refugees and asylum seekers in Colorado Springs, as well as participate in advocacy campaigns to support immigrants across the country.

Ocampo ’24 featured in Yahoo News story on ICE contracts in detention facilities

CC student Natalia Ocampo ’24 advocated on behalf of asylum seekers in Torrance County, New Mexico just before county commissioners voted to extend their ICE contract at a detention facility in Estancia. Torrance County’s elected officials unanimously voted to extend the contract that allows U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to incarcerate asylum seekers. Yahoo News shared the story which includes an interview Ocampo conducted with a Venezuelan asylum seeker.
CC Geology Prof is making big waves with new research

CC Geology Professor Paul Myrow’s latest research is creating a buzz in the media. Myrow’s fascinating finds propose that a mass die-off half a billion years ago was caused by shifting tectonic plates, according to studying ancient rocks. His work is published in Science Advances and is being picked up by numerous other science news platforms, including this story in Live Science.
Colorado College: A college built with Cripple Creek gold

Professors Emeriti Tom Cronin and Bob Loevy continue their educational series about CC, in commemoration of our 150th year in service. This Gazette article shares how the discovery of gold at Cripple Creek ushered in a Golden Age for CC, both educationally and financially. The college campus came alive in the early 1890s as enrollment increased steadily.
