I hope you are settling in well to a new academic year. As you plan your semester, I am writing to remind you that many religious and spiritual groups represented on our campus will be observing significant holy days during the upcoming weeks and months.
The Vanderbilt Holy Days Calendar provides a broad list of major holy days throughout the year and includes recommended accommodations for community members observing each holy day.
I encourage you to be proactive when planning academic or work responsibilities around your observation of holy days, including a review of university academic calendars to plan. Postdocs should submit a written request in advance to faculty PIs/mentors for consideration of a religious observance. If you have questions or concerns about academic accommodations for religious observance or religious beliefs, please contact Equal Opportunity and Access (VU) or Employee and Labor Relations (VUMC) . You are also encouraged to connect with the Center for Spiritual and Religious Life (CSRL) for support.
Vanderbilt is committed to creating an inclusive environment that respects the diverse religious and spiritual traditions of our community. I wish you all the best for a wonderful fall semester.
Sincerely,
C. André Christie-Mizell Vice Provost for Graduate Education Director, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs Dean of the Graduate School Centennial Professor of Sociology
