What a month August has been here at Compass Expeditions H/Q and with our staff and riders all around the world.
The Savannah Way with Simon Pavey departed on the first of the month and for the next 21 days the group traversed the top end of Australia.
Preparations for our two Charley Boorman South American tours were frustrated by news from Charley’s doctors.
The 2016 Road Of Bones Expedition is closing in on it’s final destination, Magadan, on the far eastern edge of Siberia, over 30 000 km from where it began 105 days ago in London .
Africa and South America are now beckoning our attention as we begin the logistics for our 2017 expeditions.
Also, we are looking for the ultimate image that really encapsulates Compass Expeditions Tours.

The Savannah Way wrap up
Last minute preparations completed the Bike Round Oz / Compass Expeditions Savannah Way tour departed Cairns on the first of August. Dakar legend and all round great bloke, Simon Pavey led the crew into the wild country of far north Queensland and then westward for the next 21 days until they reached Broome on the other side of the continent. By all reports it was an amazing, fun, yet challenging ride that took it’s toll on both bikes and bodies.
But take a look at the smiles on these faces! These guys were living the dream, riding through this awe inspiring country under the guidance the best Off Road Skills trainers around.
Simon will be running more rides and Off Road Skills traing in 2017,
Keep an eye on our Facebook page or drop us an email to be notified as new destinations and dates are confirmed.

Explore Peru and South American Explorer tours with(out) Charley Boorman
Charley was gutted by the news that he would not have the support cage off his broken leg in time to travel to join the Explore Peru and South American Explorer tours departing next month.  He implored all of the tour riders to get out and experience the best of Peru and South America without him at the front of the pack and dispatched Billy Biketruck Ward to recce the routes for him.
Billy and Compass’s own Hugo have been reporting back from the road with some amazing images and tales of adventure.
Follow us on Facebook to see the latest.
Charley also put the word out and convinced a couple of special guests to come along and join the rides. Claudio Von Planta, the cameraman and one of the original “Long Way” team will be joining the ride through Peru while Dylan Wikrama another word traveller, blogger and adventurer will be joining the South American Explorers.
Dylan turned his BMW R1150 GS into a raft and rode across the Darien Gap!
Now that is a story worth hearing!

Road Of Bones - The home straight!
By the time you read this the 2016 Road of Bones Expedition should have just about reached its conclusion in Magadan Russia.
As I write, we have not heard from the group for the past few days as they are well out of communication in the Siberian wilderness completing the final leg of their 105 day ride – Yakutsk to Magadan along the infamous Road Of Bones.
Local reports said that the road was not in great shape and that the group had a tough ride ahead of them.
But I am going to go out on a limb and say:
On behalf of Compass Expeditions, we would like to congratulate the ROB 2016 riders on an absolutely Incredible achievement in completing this epic journey!
Our 2018 Road of Bones Expedition is already filling up, places are still available but if you want your chance to ride this legendary route you will need to book soon.

It is not too late to join either our South American 360 or Cairo to Cape Town Expeditions.
Circumnavigate South America on a Motorcycle with Compass Expeditions.
Our South America 360 Degrees is the most comprehensive way to experience South America! There is no need to decide between Patagonia and Peru, Bolivia or Brazil or even Machu Picchu or Manaus. You get to visit them all on this, the mightiest of all of our Expeditions. 128 Days from the 21st of February 2017 - Places filling fast.
Africa is a continent of dreams and Cairo to Cape Town is the stuff legends are made of.  Riding this incredibly diverse, sometimes challenging continent is what life changing experiences are all about. If incredible wildlife encounters, world beating antiquities, ever changing landscapes and an utterly fascinating diversity of peoples all experienced through a motorbike tour is your thing then Africa is your continent.

What does a Compass Expeditions tour look like?
The Bear at Australian Motorcyclist Magazine is asking for a single image that captures the spirit of what Compass Expeditions does.
I thought that our riders might be the best people to help to come up with the perfect image.
So lets have a photo competition!
Send me one (1 only please) high-resolution photo, taken on a Compass Expeditions Tour or Major Expedition, make it one that encapsulates our love of people, motorcycles and adventurous travel.
Please also include a brief caption or interesting fact about the shot and give me the Ok to use it in print and social media.
Our panel of experts (Mick, Jerry and Veronica) will choose a winner, we will submit it for the Bear’s promotion and send out a prize pack to the photographer.
Email your pictures to Craig@compassexpeditions.com
Entries close September 25th 2016.
There are roads all around the world that are begging to be ridden.
I suggest we get out and ride as many as we can.
Lets start with the spectacular, the twisty and the ones that lead to fun and adventure.
