Wake Up The Same, Yet Different

Cumulus Country WKHX (Kicks 101.5)/Atlanta has unveiled its new morning configuration -- the newly rebranded Caddy, CJ and Ali wake-up show debuted yesterday, comprised of a trio of familiar Kicks 101.5 names -- longtime morning anchor Cadillac Jack (center) has now been joined by afternoon personality CJ Lusk and Ms. Ali Mac, who rotates up from middays. Former morning co-host Dallas McCade, who was promoted to Music Director earlier this week, is now permanently piloting the Kicks midday show.
Concurrent with the line-up changes, Kicks 101.5 has adopted the new slogan, "Georgia's Country For Life. As helpfully explained by PD Scott Lindy, he describes the new slogan as, "A phrase that embodies what Kicks 101.5 has meant to Atlanta and North Georgia for years. Millions of country fans heard Georgia-born country stars like Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Zac Brown, Thomas Rhett and Billy Currington for the very first time in their lives while listening to Kicks 101.5, and that tradition continues today. The future of Country music is what our history is all about."
The new show hit the ground running, qualifying listeners to win VIP experiences with Kicks 101.5 Country Fair 2017 artists Darius Rucker and Randy Houser and Crock Fest 2017 headliner, Toby Keith. Next week, Caddy, CJ & Ali will drop in on one unsuspecting listener and award them a VIP experience with Brantley Gilbert. Scott Lindy is currently working on hiring a new afternoon drive personality. The position and online application are posted at cumulus.com/careers.

Hartford Is Damon & Cory Country

iHeartMedia's WWYZ (Country 92-5)/Hartford also announced its new morning show yesterday -- the newly minted team of Damon & Cory will roll weekdays from 5-10am, starting July 5. Current WWYZ morning co-host Cory Myers (right) will now be joined by a man who is the very epitome of market equity -- Damon Scott (left), who crosses the street after a remarkable 27-year run in afternoon drive over at CBS Radio Hot AC WTIC-FM.
"We are excited that a well-known local personality like Damon Scott is joining long-time morning host, Cory Myers, on Country 92-5," said Steve Honeycomb, President of iHeartMedia's Hartford Region. "Damon Scott is a familiar name that has been on the radio in Connecticut for years. He understands how to connect with listeners and the local community as well as what it takes to be successful in radio." Scott remarked, "When you leave on a high note after 27 successful years, you need a special plan for your return. I'm excited to take the next step by joining Country 92-5 and the iHeartMedia Hartford team."
Damon & Cory replace Broadway's Electric Barnyard, as "Broadway" exits after 4 1/2 years. Broadway arrived in Hartford in late 2012, transitioning from the morning co-host spot at WKIS (Kiss 99.9)/Miami. His previous stops include WBCT and WSNX/Grand Rapids, MI. Broadway can now be reached at broadway.radio@yahoo.com.

Tonelli Celebrates Shocking Recovery

Yesterday morning, the Lamont & Tonelli Show on Cumulus Classic Rock KSAN (107.7 The Bone)/San Francisco welcomed several very special guests into the studio -- a terrific group of humans who recently helped save the life of co-host Paul Tonelli. On Thursday, May 11, while playing basketball at The Bay Club, a.k.a. "a local gym," Tonelli grabbed a rebound, went up for a lay-up and suddenly fell to the floor unresponsive, having suffered what was charitably described as a "chest incident." Fortunately, a group of alert Bay Club members and employees immediately swung into action to save Tonelli's life. Fellow players Ron Wilson, Neal Grace and Paul McDonald went to work trying to resuscitate Tonelli. Deb Hall, who was at the front desk, ran to the gym and began performing CPR on Tonelli, who, according to her co-worker "Baywatch Bob" Young, was turning a "pretty blue color." Young then used a defibrillator on Tonelli -- twice -- keeping him alive until paramedics arrived.
Yesterday, Lamont & Tonelli invited Wilson, Grace and McDonald onto the show to discuss the incident. Bob Young and Deb Hall (pictured here with Tonelli) arrived later in the show and also shared their experiences. Video of the interviews is posted on The Bone's website. As a special thank you, everyone involved in this life-saving story will attend the Lamont & Tonelli Ball on Friday, June 23 at the Concord Pavilion featuring Styx, REO Speedwagon and Don Felder.
RAMP later spoke with KSAN PD Dominic "Zakk" Zaccagnini, who told us, "It was a very emotional show. Paul Tonelli is loved by so many and we are so lucky to have him back to his semi-normal self!"

Katy Hits Three-Diamond Heights

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced that Katy Perry's iconic anthem "Roar" (Capitol Records) has earned a Diamond certification surpassing the 10-million threshold counting song sales and streams in the United States. With the new certification of "Roar," which follows previously Diamond-certified songs "Dark Horse" and "Firework," Katy Perry becomes the first artist in RIAA Gold & Platinum Program history to earn three RIAA Diamond Song Awards.
"Once again, Katy Perry has made history," said Cary Sherman, Chairman and CEO of the RIAA. "We are thrilled to recognize Katy as the first artist to earn three Diamond Song Awards. Katy has a singular track record of notable Gold & Platinum achievements, and this triple Diamond milestone is now forever etched in our program's history. Only 14 songs have earned Diamond status to date, and Katy owns three of them -- what a remarkable achievement and testament to a groundbreaking artist." During the course of Perry's prolific career, 21 songs have achieved RIAA certification, and three of her studio albums have also been certified Platinum or multi-Platinum.
Almost 60 years since its inception, the RIAA's iconic Gold & Platinum brand is the industry's premier award for recognizing artistic achievement in the music marketplace. Officially launched in 1958, the program expanded in 1999 to include a Diamond Award honoring 10 million or more certifications of an album or song.
