LifeSciTN Legislative Days - MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Nashville: Wednesday, February 18, 2015
During our legislative Day on the Hill in Nashville, we meet with the legislative leadership and often make presentations during committee hearings about the impacts and opportunities for industry growth in Tennessee. Each year, we host an evening reception for legislators, staffers and members at Morton's Steak House.

Washington D.C.: Tentative Date is set for Wednesday, March 25, 2015
At our Day in D.C., Life Science Tennessee members receive an update from our policy and advocacy committee chairs as well as AdvaMed and BIO on the status of current policy issues. The group also meets with members of Tennessee's Congressional delegation and senior policy staff to discuss the issues in detail.
If you'd like more information, email Abby Trotter. More information to follow.

OTHER NEWS

Congressional House Energy and Commerce Committee members (including its Vice-Chairman Tennessee's Rep. Marsha Blackburn) launched earlier this year the bipartisan 21st. C. Cures initiative with the goal of accelerating the discovery, development and delivery cycles for new cures and treatments.  Life Science Tennessee will release a number of recommendations for improvements at both the FDA and CMS as a part of the initiative, and as part of our federal legislative package for next year.  Life ScienceTN members will be asked to comment on a draft recommendation document in the coming days.  For more information, email Abby Trotter at atrotter@lifesciencetn.org.

Haslam talks Medicaid expansion in Tennessee
Governor Haslam sat down with NPR's Blake Farmer to discuss his ideas on Medicaid expansion - a plan he says that will be different from expansion under the Affordable Care Act and will serve Tennesseans in need of coverage.
In a statement released in November, Commissioner Johnson commented on the department's commitment to the idea of AgLaunch, which would provide business needs to entrepreneurs and agricultural innovators. The program is expected in 2015. Life Science Tennessee's Steve Bares (Chairman of the Board) and Pete Nelson (Board Member) have led the efforts in conjunction with Commissioner Johnson's office.
