What's New This Month

This month I recorded a series of YouTube videos titled "Chord Shorts". You can watch them in full on YouTube, but they are also available for purchase if you like to have them on your own computer. They (and all my other lessons) are available to order on the special newsletter order page. The price is 2-for-$30.

- Chord Shorts (B) Watch clip. - Seven short videos, each describing one chord fact. A lot of this info is taught on the Capos, Chords, and Theory DVD (which is fab and I highly recommend going through it if you haven't already) but videos 6 and 7 have info that is not presented elsewhere.

$5 Download Specials

This month's specials are mostly holiday themed, with a couple of ringers thrown in as well. They are available to order on the special newsletter order page.

- Carol of the Bells (I) Watch clip. - I love this melody and arranged it for the banjo last year.

- Auld Lang Syne (I) Watch clip. - You're going to need this tune exactly one day per year!

- Santa Never Brings Me A Banjo (i) Watch clip. - A cute and funny story about always wanting a banjo for Christmas.

- Little Darlin' Pal Of Mine (A) Watch clip. - A classic Earl Scruggs tune that he recorded as a banjo-bass duet.

- Christmas In Prison (B) Watch clip. - Not your typical Christmas song. From John Prine.

- I'll Fly Away in C (I) Watch clip. - A gospel tune familiar to most everyone since it was included on the soundtrack of "O Brother Where Art Thou."

Hannah Mayree on Why Are White People Obsessed With The Banjo

Hannah Mayree of the Black Banjo Reclamation Project (which I support monthly on their Patreon) recorded this talk for the Champaign-Urbana Folk Festival in October 2020. They pose challenging questions that are important for us white banjo players to ask ourselves. There are no easy or quick answers. But I think it is important to start questioning the status quo, which is why I'm sharing this here.
